Goshala at Krishna Sadan !
Religion and Patriotism are strong forces of influence over a person. India being a agrarian country, majority of farmers still use traditional agriculture methods, including major use of bulls and cows in farm lands. Furthermore, the role of cows in cultural and ritual processes is inseparable. Thus placing cow as significant for majority of the Indians.
Keeping aside the historical relevance and logical derivation, it is beyond words to explain the real joy and fun one would get while having cow as a friend and companion. The natural bonding with cows, the way they respond to your calls, the way they show their love is something understood only when one experiences it. One of the most important aspect is the exclusivity a cow often shows. No matter how friendly is the guest or even the gosevak who works with him daily, cow allows them only to a level, and the deeper bond is exclusive only to the pet parent. This is something only someone who experienced with cow can tell, and furthermore, this is something that makes one obsessed with cows.
12 months into having gaushala, I strongly wonder why people never spoke about having cow as ones best friend and therapeutic aide., besides the above mentioned reasons. As much as I can remember it is only the renowned social worker, Shri Baba Amte, while working with leprosy patients had set up the Garden of Joy, the outcast land for outcast people, ( in his own words ) has spoken about cow and included them in his process of working with leprosy patients. Today, here in Krishna Sadan, I again see a lot of importance of goshala in not only maintaining the ecology / sanctity of the premises, further for the love and bonding they can bring in for elders.
In June 2021, the goshala has become functional with mothercow, Radha and calves Meenakshi, Nandini and Gauri joining us. Although started more as a experiment and to understand the relevance of gaushala at Krishna Sadan, today we are affirmative of the value they bring in to the place and most importantly the value they add to each of the elderly friend at Krishna Sadan. Thus understanding the importance, we are now trying to make sure the goshala initiative is taken proper care with necessary support and financial resources. In this context we decided to run a annual fund raiser every June to August, and ensure enough resources are created.
